Are you one of the approximately 30 million Americans currently living with diabetes? Of those 30 million, 7.2 million are unaware they have the disease. When not managed properly diabetes can cause various health complications, some of which can be disabling. Diabetes is the number one cause of kidney failure, lower-limb amputations, and blindness in adults.
Research indicates individuals have better health outcomes and are less likely to develop complications when they receive formal diabetes education. However, only 57 percent of U.S. adults with diabetes report ever partaking in any formal education about their disease.
At Linn County Health Department, our goal is to provide support and education to those living with diabetes. Diabetes education makes you more aware of the disease, what it takes to treat it, and gives you the power to control it. Diabetes education provides you with the tools and knowledge you need to make necessary changes to improve your lifestyle.
For more information about individual diabetes education, call our office at 660-258-7251 and ask to speak to our Diabetes Educator, Amber Tornow.
